Creating a big impact for a little budget.

It seems like every morning I’m faced with more gloomy news about where the economy is heading over the next 12 – 18 months.  It doesn’t sound good.

It is of particular interest to me as I’ve got a small business that primarily assists other small to medium-sized businesses.  Whilst we will all be faced by some pretty tough business decisions over the next wee while, what is clear is that every single pound that is spent on any of my clients’ web presences will be precious.

It’s not all doom and gloom though.  So much can be done on tight budgets and this is where we’re becoming increasingly effective.  Here are a few questions you should ask yourself, together with some pointers on how we could maybe help you:

Do you actually need a website?

This isn’t such a stupid question.  If your business is a new startup then there is no point having an all-singing, all-dancing website where  nobody knows that it exists.  I’d certainly recommend you research domain names though as an email address tied to your business name or type of business carries a heapload more gravitas than a Hotmail or Yahoo-type address.

I’ve lost count of the number of clients I’ve dealt with where they’ve come into the meeting thinking they need a fully-blown web presence that will cost them thousands and then realised that they need only acquire a domain name and get us to create a holding page parked at that domain with all the relevant information on it.  Starting small and building up is the way to go on this front.  And remember – a site without content is useless.
