It seems like I’m always harking on about these tough times we’re living in at the moment. Hard to avoid really.
It stands to reason that many clients are looking to spend less on their web presence and in a lot of cases they’ll be erring towards thinking about (what they would call) a “redesign” rather than a brand new site.
I don’t think there’s a difference between the two. If you feel that your website has lost it’s appeal and is looking old and tired then it stands to reason that your audience will too! I’ve met quite a lot clients recently who are almost embarrassed to give me their URL!
Given the opportunity to start afresh, you can do everything differently. You’re falling short if you think a re-design is purely about the visual aspect of your site – it’s much deeper than that. If you were given a decent budget and a decent plot of land, how would you re-build your home? Which features or rooms would you do away with? Which rooms would you expand? How would you improve your day to day life? It’s not too bad an idea to ask these same questions of your website development.
Re-designing is a great opportunity to think big about your company, focus on previously ignored possibilities and lead you to an end result where you are not only proud to have visitors but will pro-actively develop ways of seeking out new ones.
What do you think?
